Success for the Oakman Cycle Sportive
20.Sep.2011
Somehow, it managed not to rain on Sunday, so the sun was actually shining for the very first Oakman Inns Cycle Sportive on 18th September.
Setting off from the Kings Arms with a very early start at 7.45am, approximately 50 cyclists headed out kitted up to enjoy the 70km or 50km route weaving around the Chiltern hills. And hills there were.
But with refreshment stops at The Red Lion in Water End and The Akeman in Tring, it made for a very relaxed atmosphere as riders chilled out with some coffee and cake en-route, treating themselves after those punishing, calf-burning hills and long stretches of undulating road.
While some very keen riders arrived back at the Kings Arms in around two hours, most took it fairly easily and finished the sportive in around four hours before enjoying bacon sandwiches or a full on Sunday roast in the restaurant!
Another great event, which may be replicated again in the near future owing to its popularity! Thanks to all the riders who participated and we hope you’ll join us again soon.
